La galerie Envie
Envie is a new contemporary art gallery born from a dialogue between France and South Africa.
It brings together artworks, design pieces, and contemporary objects in an intimate, curated approach — inspired by the new generation of Parisian art spaces and deeply rooted in South Africa’s vibrant creative energy.
Conceived as a bridge between the two art scenes, the gallery aims to open several spaces in both France and South Africa. Envie will be officially launched in July 2026 with an exceptional dinner in Knysna, along the Garden Route, bringing together around 110 collectors, patrons, and local cultural figures.
This event will mark the beginning of a series of pop-up exhibitions planned for the last quarter of 2026 in three iconic Garden Route locations: Knysna, Mossel Bay, and Wilderness. These exhibitions will allow for the exploration and testing of different formats ahead of the gallery’s permanent opening in 2027.
The choice of the Garden Route is driven by its current position as one of South Africa’s most dynamic regions. It is home to some of the country’s wealthiest populations, with a booming real estate market focused on high-end renovations and new developments. Paradoxically, the region lacks contemporary art galleries — despite growing interest in collecting art and design objects.
Envie also plans to organize an event in France in late 2026 (date to be confirmed), to showcase the selected artists to a French and international audience. The gallery is committed to renewing its curatorial program annually with a fresh selection of artists.
Envie is developed in partnership with Art Confidential (www.art-confidential.com), with artistic direction and curatorship led by Hortense, who personally selects each artist and artwork presented.
